One hundred and twenty (120) Grade 10 & 11 students entered for the 2011 Summer CSEC exam attended the first Study Recipe seminar held at Mile Gully High School, Manchester, Jamaica. This seminar aimed at teaching these student how to learn, formed part of an initiative by the Jamaica National Building Society and Victoria Mutual Building Society funded Center of Excellence, which currently aims to optimize student performance in six (6) rural Jamaican High schools. The Center of Excellence provides six (6) schools with much needed resources -technical expertise, equipment and facilities, to optimize student performance.
Then Principal Mr. Ulit Bracket reported that after the seminar, more student study groups were visible during the break and lunch times in the school yard. Students also indicated to him they felt more motivated and confident of success in their CSEC exams.
LASCO Foods Ltd distributed free samples of its flavored Soy food beverages to students at the school, during the January seminar.
The exam results were very impressive with 100% pass rates in some subjects and a student getting Grade1 in all subjects sat in CSEC.
Some twenty (20) students from three different High Schools attended a Study Recipe seminar held at the St. Andrew Girl’s High School in Kingston, Jamaica to prepare them for the Grade 11 school year and their regional Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams.
Of the twenty (20) sudents, sixteen (16) got 100% passes in subjects they sat during the 2009 CSEC exams. Nineteen (19) of the twenty (20) students received distinctions in different subjects and none of the twenty (20) students were successful in less than 6 different subjects.
Congratulations to you all.
